Lamtharn Hantrakul ลำธาร หาญตระกูล aka yaboihanoi
Lamtharn Hantrakul "yaboihanoi" is an AI Sound Artist, AI Research Scientist and Creative Director challenging Southeast Asian traditions through a synthesis of electronic music, machine learning and mixed-media reimaginations of Thai culture. Across sound, dance and design, his solo and collaborative projects collapse binaries between the traditional and modern, the young and old, and confront algorithms that choreograph which cultures are celebrated and forgotten.
Technology is never neutral; it is created within the cultural scope of its inventors. Lamtharn leverages his unique career as both a programmer and composer to reveal and rebel; coding audio technologies and then wielding them to write electronic music empowering melodies, soundscapes and rituals of his region.

The “Thai Patrimony Room” is a modern take on Thai classical architecture, featuring new perspectives on Thai design rooted in carpentry, floral artwork and an interactive music center piece. The soundscape contains a mixture of my signature electronic-Thai sounds generated using an AI-based analysis and re-synthesis of Thai instruments to preserve melody and rhythm.

หัตถา "Hatta" (Manus) is inspired by the movement of Thai รำวง "rahm wong" dances. I wanted to create a track which embodied the rhythmic structure and feeling of rahm wong dance, but with more modern electronic music arrangement and sound design. In my live performances, this track is accompanied by visuals of Thai hands in motion to the music.

A tour-de-force of original performance of Electronic Thai Bass Music and bespoke projections rooted in หนังใหญ Thai Shadow Theater. The show took listeners in SonarHall, the biggest stage in the SONAR DAY lineup, on a musical journey through thumping beats anchored in Thai classical rhythm and dance cycles. The ethereal melodies from instruments both real and imagined were written exclusively in Thai tuning systems instead of Western equal-tempered tuning.

7artscafe Concept - Boat Songs and Port Cities
from Bangkok and Yokohama
I am interested in weaving these melodies and rhythms as counterpoint to the soundscapes of Yokohama’s port, shipyards and potentially archival recordings of local Yokohama boat/ship songs to connect these two cities.
